Summer News Letter 2011

From the new Interim Executive Director

I would like to officially introduce myself to all the families, children and staff here at YUCDC.  I am very excited to be joining the team for the next six months as the Interim Executive Director. I have over 25 years of experience in the field of Early Childhood Education. Primarily, my experience has been working with Preschool and Kindergarten programs at George Brown College. I have over six years of experience as a supervisor or director. Over the past two years, I have been Field Placement Faculty at George Brown College, supervising students in the School of Early Childhood Education. I truly look forward to working with the Board of Directors, committees and all the families, children and staff at YUCDC.

Olia Ciurpita, RECE

Interim Executive Director

Take Note

Please note the YUCDC is closed Friday, July 1, 2011 for Canada Day.

Over the next few months, the team and I will be working together to develop the program and environments to support Emergent Curriculum process.

Emergent Curriculum is based on observations and curriculum that develops when exploring what is “socially relevant, engaging, and personally meaningful to children.” It is ongoing and evolves from the interactions of the children and adults.

Winter and Summer Gear

Please help staff by cleaning out your child’s cubby and taking your winter gear home. To prepare for the upcoming changing weather and summer months, please ensure your child has rain gear, a light sweater or jacket, a sunhat and sunscreen. Kindly apply sunscreen in the morning when your child is at home. The staff will reapply it in the afternoon.

Birthday Celebrations

Keep it simple and “peanut free.”  Some suggestions for the summer months include Chapman’s ice cream, popsicles, fruit pops or Cupcakes. Please ensure that all products have the peanut-free logo.

Canadian Tire Money and Penny Drive

We welcome your spare pennies and Canadian Tire money which will go towards program equipment. There are two jars in the office to start our collections.

Fees Reminder

Fees are due on the first of the month. Please clear your account in full every month.

School-Age Withdrawals

If you are planning to withdraw your child from the School Age program, please let us know as soon as possible so that we will be better able to support the upcoming transitions for the senior preschoolers.

Preschool Room 116

Children who will be going to Grade 1 in September should note that the last day will be September 2, 2011. If you are interested in a School Age space for September 2011, you must inform Olia or Colleen in the office. Your child’s name will then be put in a lottery draw when spaces come available. This will not be a guarantee of a School Age space.

Your Feedback is Welcome

I welcome your suggestions and feedback so that we can better support the needs of the children, families and staff at YUCDC.
